4th traditional international Theatre of the Oppressed Non-festival
We are thrilled to announce the 4th traditional international Theatre of the Oppressed Non-festival which aims to unite creative people working according to the methods of Theatre of the Oppressed in Slovenia and abroad, as well other TO fans.
This year the Theatre of the Oppressed Non-festival will take place from July 7th to 10th 2016 in its traditional location at Gornji Grad in the heart of Slovenia amidst unpolluted nature, green woods, pure streams under a starry sky and in a relaxed atmosphere.
Zato zagovarjamo življenje v skladu z naravo.

1. Osnove fizičnega gledališča
Justin Durel in Alenka Marinič
Termini: petek in sobota dopoldan
Estetika gledališča zatiranih, poezija, ritem in zvok… To bodo naši spremljevalci in vodilo.
Poleg pripovedi bomo raziskali še druge performativne možnosti in načine uprizarjanja. Preizkusili se bomo v različnih gledaliških pristopih in vsakemu izmed sodelujočih poiskali njemu/njej lasten izraz.
1. Basic Elements of Physical Theatre, Justin Durel in Alenka Marinič
Dates: Friday and Saturday morning
It is possible to attend each day separately, number of participants 4-20
Alenka Marinič (SLO) and Justin Durel (USA) have been teaching theatre together for five years, since they finished their studies at the Helikos International School of Theatre Creation, under master teacher Giovanni Fusetti. Rooted in the pedagogy of Jacques Lecoq, their workshops explore performance from a physical perspective, always emphasizing the interaction between technique and play. From traditional techniques of mask and corporeal mime, to modern techniques of gestalt and clown, their pedagogy believes that the laws of movement determine the tools with which the performer can play—and that the performer’s use of these tools determines what can be expressed on stage. Exploring breath, spatial awareness, human postures, gestures, and body language, the pedagogy of Durel and Marinič focuses on the emotions that arise when technique and play meet.
2. Give VOICE to social change, Metka Bahlen Okoli
Dates: Friday and Saturday afternoon, Sunday morning (general rehearsal for presentation)
It is necessary to attend all days, number of participants 6-12
Metka Bahlen Okoli works as a pedagogue, andragogue and youth worker with years of experience in working with projects active participation at the Bob association. She is a singer, storyteller and active in developing and promoting techniques of Theatre of the oppressed.
Aesthetics of the oppressed, poetry, rhythm, sound … These are our starting points and guidelines. We will look for inspiration for creating activist songs inside ourselves, in our environment, in others in the media etc. The final aim is to create a performance and concert of our own activist songs about topics which irritate and intrigue us and about social conditions which call for change! Aestethics of the oppressed is a combination of diverse approaches and techniques with the goal of aesthetisation of scenes of oppression. The process of research proceeds from writing poetry, letters and personal reflections to performing them in divers ways – by painting, photography, dance, music, installations etc.
3. Personal is theatrical! Tin Grabnar
Dates: Friday and Saturday all days.
It is possible to attend each day separately, number of participants 5-15
Tin Grabnar is a senior student of theatre direction at the Academy of theatre, radio, film and television in Ljubljana. Already in high school he was very active in the field of performance and theatre. As member of Moment Theatre, MKC Theatre School and as leader of the physical theatre Dotik he created a series of performances meeting with wide acclaim at home and abroad. His interests lie in classical as well as in alternative, dance and puppet theatre.
In the Personal is theatrical! workshop we will reformulate the well-known expression ‘personal is political!’ and look for theatrical power in personal stories. Through introductory exercises in group dynamics and mutual trust we will embark on a research of our personal statements and explore the line between fiction and reality. How to rearrange one’s personal story to make it theatrically effective and become expressive on stage? Can we tell a fictive story in a way to make it sound like a personal one? Beside storytelling we will also explore other means of performance, trying out different theatrical approaches and finding an appropriate means of expression for each participant

18.00 CIRKUS PONOVNE UPORABE/ Razbiti junaki (predstava za otroke in odrasle)
Predstava črpa iz družbenega eksperimenta oz. uličnega performansa Miše Gams iz leta 2013/14, ko mimoidočim čisti čevlje. Vključuje tehnike impro-gledališča in lutkovni del, ki nagovarjata etična izhodišča za boljšo socialno in ekološko sliko sveta, kajti glavni protagonisti so marginalci, ranljivi in hendikepirani, torej RAZBITI, ki najdejo (skupno) pot, da postanejo JUNAKI.
Idejna zasnova, izvedba: Jonas Žabkar, Iuna Ornik, Miša Gams,Elvis Berljak
Idejna zasnova prizora z račko: Janez Kocman
Lutke: Iuna Ornik
Tehnična pomoč in rešitve: Zoran Srdić Janežič
Postanite poslanci novega ljudskega parlamenta Outopie in tvorno sooblikujte prihodnost države.

V kakšen položaj vas potiskajo take oblike dela?

The main characters include members from marginal and unprivileged groups and handicapped persons – BROKEN people who (together) find a way to become HEROES.

21.00 performance Outopia:
Latest news: The impossible has happened! In the state of Outopia there an unprecedented twist has occurred. After a general uprising of the people the political elite has decided to renounce its power and pass it peacefully and consensually into the hands of the people. Thus the year-long dreams of discontent citizens has been fulfilled and they decided on a plebiscite to implement a new form of socio-political organisation based on the principles of equality, solidarity, participation and direct democracy and first and foremost on the abolition of any kind of exploitation, inequality and coercion. The people finally govern Outopia, from the people for the people. All conditions have thus been met, the golden age is about to dawn. But will this be the case?
This is the starting point of Outopia, an experimental interactive performance which aims to explore possible alternatives to existent socio-political structures in theatrical form. It also poses the question to what extent people are actually aware of the possibilities of change, the quality of change, and mostly, of the consequences that such changes might bring on the social as well as on the individual level.

19.00 Road to Tadam (perform
ance for children and grown-ups)
In the street adventure play Road to Tadam, three performers stage a wild travelling adventure using only three objects and a single space – an adventure taking them over mountains, cliffs, huge waterfalls and a tornado. By skillful manipulation of objects they build airplanes and boats in the street and by using pantomyme they depict grassy horizons, rivers and even an erupting volcano they have to get away from in order to survive their journey. Road to Tadam is an exciting street adventure, an unexpected love story and a metaphor for what we are all looking for – a better tomorrow.

Have you ever been in a position with no money in your pockets, anxiously waiting for the one day in the month for which you had toiled and sweated, but once it finally came, you saw the numbers only to realise that you have been majorly f****d? Have you ever been at a job interview and they asked you if you are a student or self-employed and if you didn’t have the desired status they simply cut you off? Have you experienced unbalanced timetables, getting hardly any work one month and hardly any rest the next one? How do you feel about such modes of employment?
Can you afford living on your own, adapting your flat, planning vacation and shopping without counting every cent? What is to be done in situations like that will be revealed in cooperation with the spect-actors by the All-or-nothing group in a forum play dealing with the topic of precarious work. Deriving from a concrete experience of a known person at a known place at a known time.
