MOJE VOLITVE, MOJ EU

My Elections – My EU

O PROJEKTU

Projekt My Elections – My EU je v letu 2024 povezal mlade iz Avstrije, Italije, Poljske, Slovenije in Češke. Skozi umetniško ustvarjanje in družbeno-aktivistične delavnice so raziskovali_e dve osrednji temi: podnebno krizo in migracije.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The project My Elections – My EU connected young people from Austria, Italy, Poland, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic in 2024. Through artistic creation and socio-activist workshops, they explored two central topics: the climate crisis and migration. The project was implemented under the coordination of the Austrian organization Südwind with the support of the European Union (Erasmus+), and the Slovenian partners were KUD Transformator and Društvo Humanitas.

The aim of the project was to provide young people with space, knowledge, and methods to shape and express their views on European policies and to strengthen their civic role.

The first mobility took place from 15 to 21 April 2024 on Lampedusa, one of the most important points of migration routes in the Mediterranean. Young people engaged in discussions with local experts, researchers, and eyewitnesses to deepen their understanding of migration issues, European migration policies, and human stories that are often overlooked.

In smaller artistic groups, the participants began developing the first drafts of a performance, creatively portraying the life stories of migrants and highlighting their position in the European context.

The second mobility took place from 20 to 26 May 2024 at Lake Zicksee, which is directly threatened by climate change. Participants met with environmental experts and activists from Greenpeace, who presented the impact of climate change on local communities and the broader European context.

During this mobility, participants further developed their artistic ideas and created the first public scenes of the performance, which they presented in Vienna. The focus was on ecological vulnerability, habitat loss, and the urgent need for political action.

The final mobility took place in October 2024 in Brussels, where participants performed the final international performance at the European Parliament. The performance combined poetry, sound elements, and interactive scenes, clearly highlighting the need for more effective responses to climate and migration challenges.

An important part of the event was also a discussion between young people and European decision-makers. Participants presented their demands, experiences, and perspectives on Europe’s future to Members of the European Parliament. The discussion showed that young people want more involvement in shaping policies and more space for their voices in public dialogue.

The main result of the project is the Voices Through Water toolkit, which brings together methods, experiences, and creative outputs from all three mobilities. It contains practical tools for working with young people, descriptions of the performative and participatory methods used, and concrete examples of exercises and workshops that guide participants from exploring a topic to creating a public artistic performance. The toolkit is designed as an open resource for schools, youth organizations, cultural institutions, and educators who want to engage young people with complex European topics in an accessible, creative, and participatory way.

The toolkit is also translated into Slovenian and is freely available in digital format on the website: https://voicesthroughwater.eu/sl/
